Congress Revives Haryana District Leadership After 11 Years

In a major organisational push, the Congress has appointed new District Presidents across Haryana under its Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, ending an 11-year gap in district-level leadership. The revamp, led by Rahul Gandhi, aims to rebuild grassroots strength and curb factionalism ahead of upcoming polls.

The selection process, monitored by 22 AICC and 51 HPCC observers, involved consultations with local workers and panels sent to the party high command. Criteria included age (35–55 years), at least five years of party work, a clean image, and representation for SC, BC, women, and grassroots leaders.

Rahul Gandhi set “zero tolerance” for favouritism, stressing merit over group loyalties. Party insiders see the move as a vital step to restore organisational presence in Haryana, where the Congress has struggled to convert its voter base into electoral victories in recent years. But it will be interesting to note their functioning in light of tough internal tussle in Haryana Congress where tall leaders like Selja, B. Hooda, R. Surjewala vying for maximum space in Haryana Congress.
