NICOSIA, June 16, 2025 – During the second day of his three‑nation tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was today conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, the Republic of Cyprus’s highest civilian honour, by President Nikos Christodoulides at a ceremony held in the Presidential Palace’s stately Throne Room.

Modi, on the first-ever visit by an Indian head of government to Cyprus, praised the depth of bilateral ties and dedicated the award to friendship and shared vision for a peaceful, prosperous region. Earlier today, he held a private tête‑à‑tête with President Christodoulides, during which both leaders vowed to expand cooperation in trade, infrastructure and renewable energy.

Following the investiture, the two sides convened delegation‑level talks where officials explored fresh avenues for collaboration in sectors spanning digital technology, agriculture and maritime security. President Christodoulides noted that Cyprus “looks forward to deeper engagement with India in areas of mutual strategic interest” as both nations seek to strengthen links between South Asia, the Eastern Mediterranean and the European Union..

On the sidelines of the visit, Modi will address the Cypriot–Indian Business Forum in Limassol, join an informal working dinner with local industry leaders and later attend a reception hosted by the Indian community in Nicosia. The visit continues tomorrow with a state banquet hosted by President Christodoulides, followed by Modi’s departure for Canada.
